Intended as a Light Racer for the X-Alps, and developed as a High-End cross country wing: the OMEGA XALPS 2 benefits from extensive SIGMA 10 development and the knowledge won from the OMEGA XALPS, in equal measure. This Light Racer not only shows very high directional and pitch stability in lively air, but has an exceptionally effective and easy-to-push gas pedal. And one should not discount sensational weights from just 3.3 kg!

OMEGA XALPS 2 – Ready to Race
Originally developed for the X-Alps, the OMEGA XALPS 2 benefits from the knowledge won from the OMEGA XALPS and further extensive SIGMA 10 development. This Light Racer not only shows very high directional and pitch stability in lively air, but has an exceptionally effective and easy-to-push gas pedal and sensational low weight, from just 3.3 kg
Highly performant: Strong performer in bumpy air
69 cells, 22 % fewer line support points than the predecessor and a significant reduction of line meters: the technical data for the OMEGA ALPS 2 (flat aspect ratio 7.04) speaks for itself. Additional features include improved stress distribution and refined spanwise curvature. The result is a sporty high-end cross country wing that stands out by its outstanding into-wind performance and high degree of pitch and directional stability.
Made for speed: Flyable high speeds
The high degree of pitch and directional stability of the OMEGA XALPS 2 is not just very helpful for glide performance in bumpy air, but is also convenient for the pilot on long cross country flights. The OMEGA XALPS 2’s exceptionally stable canopy is very comfortable to handle in turbulent air for a wing of its classification. And the stability even goes up when accelerated. The speed system is easy-pushing and effective, and the Pitch Control System, which pulls both C and B levels down, gives something of a two-liner feeling to the pilot ...
Light weight: Robust, Quality light-build design
The OMEGA XALPS 2 intended especially for the 2017 X-Alps race. There, every gram counts, as well as performance. Moreover, an adventure race makes very high demands on the structure. The OMEGA XALPS 2 has been built in the ADVANCE Quality Light-build style and is particularly robust.
The OMEGA XALPS 2 conveys exactly the stability needed for a pilot to keep a cool head in bumpy air, so allowing him to concentrate on tactics.
- Sebastian Huber,X-Alps-Vice 2015
Technologies & Features
Technology
Sliced Diagonals
The OMEGA XALPS 2 has Sliced Diagonals inside the wing to provide ideal tension distribution at minimum weight. Extensive work on this technology enabled many line support points to be saved, as well as ensuring the stable shape of the canopy itself, even under demanding aerodynamic and mechanical conditions.
Pitch-Control-System
The OMEGA XALPS 2 is supplied with a modern Pitch Control System. The associated C-handles convey some of the pull on the C lines to the B level as well. This makes it possible to steer without deforming the canopy profile, therefore avoiding a performance penalty.
Line Features
Colour coding
To make line sorting easier the OMEGA XALPS 2 A and brake lines are identified by different colours (grey and red) at the risers. Big ear lines, stabilo lines and the much-handled brake lines have a section of coloured cover running up from the riser end.
Twice coated
Edelrid Magix Pro lines differ from other uncovered versions because they undergo a detailed Thermo Shield treatment and have an additional UV-Protec-Coating, which filters out the sun’s damaging UV light. These finishing processes prolong life, provide resistance to dust and water, and, at the same time, minimise the loss of strength caused by UV radiation.
Very stable length
Compared with Dyneema, Aramid lines, in general, change their lengths very little. Edelrid “Magix Pro” demonstrates minimal stretching and shrinking – within a maximum 0.2 % - and this line has excellent return-to-original properties. Experience shows that paragliders, fully lined with Edelrid “Magix Pro”, do not require retrimming for very long periods. Original flying characteristics are retained even after much intensive use.
Robust dimensions
The use of “Magix Pro” for the OMEGA XALPS 2 does not put performance alone at the forefront. Line thickness is similar to that of traditional covereds. This measurement results in considerably higher strength for the same diameter, because the whole cross section shares the load – not just the core. The broad gauge of “Magix Pro” lines delivers longer life compared to similar thickness covered lines.
Inner loop reinforcement
Every OMEGA XALPS 2 line has internal loop reinforcement. To achieve this a length of the same line is spliced inside a loop, increasing its line diameter, and thus the surface area of loop to loop contact. This reduces pressure where thin line meets thicker, and avoids the problem of the thin line cutting into the other.
Outer loop reinforcement
Base line loops also have external covers to minimise wear where they meet their quicklink.
Risers
The OMEGA XALPS 2 has one type of riser. The risers are made from Polyester/Technora and have Softlinks. The riser width of 13 mm gives them sufficient stiffness to provide excellent handling for the lowest possible weight.
Overall it’s a pleasure to fly, with rock solid stability, the performance you’d expect and a weight which makes hiking up the hill a joy… almost.
- Caedmon Mullin, Flybubble team pilot (full review)
Overall the OMEGA XALPS 2 made me feel confident, calm and adventurous. It’s fun and agile to fly, solid and sweet-natured, and has high performance.
The OMEGA XALPS 2 is ideally suited for hike-and-fly racing (X-Pyr, Xalps, Bordairline), bivi adventurers, seasoned XC pilot world travellers, and experienced pilots who are determined to get their pack weight minimised. The OXA2 is for advanced pilots only as it is slightly more advanced than the previous model, offering more performance and aspect ratio.
For suitable pilots, the OXA2 will seem solid with relatively low pilot demands, but with a high level of feedback and the typical balanced responses of an Advance wing.
