Nova NIVO: Where your freedom begins
Target group
More than a classic student glider
The NIVO (EN/LTF A) is ideal for the first steps in pilot training. Its forgiving flight behavior supports students during typical piloting and judgment errors and facilitates safe learning progress. At the same time, the NIVO conveys a balanced, harmonious flying experience right from the start, inspiring confidence.
Thanks to its performance and handling potential – up to and including first freestyle maneuvers – it remains an excellent choice well beyond the training phase.
The NIVO is not only designed for training but can also be used meaningfully beyond it. For pilots looking for their own glider after completing training, it offers the right combination of safety and development potential. With increasing experience, the NIVO remains predictable, efficient, and pleasant to fly, reliably accompanying pilots on thermal flights, first cross-country attempts, or enjoyable flights at the home site.
Flight feel & performance
In flight, the NIVO impresses with harmonious handling and a clean, progressive brake pressure distribution, resulting in precise and easily controllable steering. Especially in thermals, it supports the pilot with low sink rates in turns and consistent feedback, making centering easier. Longer flights at the local site can therefore be flown in a relaxed and efficient manner.
The number of cells, deliberately kept in the mid-range for the EN-A category, ensures an optimal balance of high passive safety, solid performance, and easy handling. This makes the NIVO equally suitable for students and newly licensed pilots.
The NIVO is also well suited for first steps in maneuver training. As a freestyle-capable EN-A glider, it allows a controlled introduction to maneuvers such as full stall, SAT, helicopter, or misty. Its forgiving behavior and clear feedback support safe learning, both during training and in further progression – fun is guaranteed.
Positioning
Between PRION and AONIC
Nova's goal was to develop a glider that gives flight instructors complete peace of mind while offering pilots a flying experience that goes far beyond that of a typical student glider. The result is a wing that feels like a real glider from the very first flights.
To achieve this balance, we deliberately increased the structural complexity to improve handling and performance without compromising safety. A low aspect ratio ensures calm, predictable reactions in unexpected situations, while the increased number of cells enhances precision, handling, and thermal performance. The NIVO climbs efficiently and smoothly, allowing pilots to center thermals with confidence and ease.
The perfect fit
Designed for pilots seeking a forgiving yet capable wing, the NIVO is built to last. Robust materials ensure durability even under demanding conditions - wet grass on early morning takeoffs, dusty landings, and intensive training use. Beyond basic progression, it supports further independent learning, extended thermal flights, and even the first simple acro maneuvers such as SATs and helicopters during SIV training.
The NIVO is more than a student glider: it is a well-rounded, long-lasting wing that combines safety, performance, and durability - simply better than conventional school gliders and ready to grow with the pilot.
Construction
High durability
The NIVO combines a well-thought-out design with high-quality materials, engineered for exceptional durability. Even with intensive use, frequent ground handling, and varying conditions, the NIVO remains a reliable companion with consistent flight characteristics over many hours of flying.
Additional cells on top
With the NIVO, our development team rethought this technology down to the smallest detail. To achieve particularly smooth and intuitive handling, the wing features a more pronounced curvature. While this design approach typically leads to increased spiral dynamics, the NIVO compensates for this through the strategic use of additional cells in the upper surface.
This targeted cell placement effectively balances the aerodynamic forces, resulting in a calmer and more controlled spiral behavior without compromising agility. Wingover dynamics also benefit: beginners experience a forgiving and predictable learning behavior, while advanced pilots will appreciate that the wing maintains its energy even during large, high-amplitude wingovers.
The result is a glider that combines refined handling with well-controlled dynamics - supportive for training, yet rewarding as skills progress.
Technology
Think outside the box.
Instead of dividing the in-built rods and fixing both curved pieces with seams, the rods here simply form a loop. This saves on seams, supports the Air Scoop principle and has no disadvantages in terms of weight and packing volume.
Consistent at top speed.
Using thin webbing at the leading edge, the upper and lower surfaces are connected in the middle of each cell. This promotes leading edge solidity in flight, which is particularly beneficial to performance when flying at speed.
Comfort on the ground. All NOVA paragliders are made to be easy to use. For packing you can use a concertina bag, but it is not essential. Our extensive experience with rods has taught us that the packing method has little influence on the durability of the wing. Bent rods quickly spring back into their original shape.
