In recent years, AirDesign designers have made significant strides in the world of two-seaters with the development of the UFO Bi, the Ronin Bi and the Ride 4.

The Hike XPed was a particularly ambitious project, involving numerous stages of development. The objective was clear: to capitalise on the experience gained with our latest two-seaters in order to design a wing inspired by the SuSi XPed.

The Hike XPed is a lightweight, compact and versatile two-seater, designed for the mountains and capable of adapting to a wide range of activities. Its high tolerance in demanding conditions will allow you to enjoy all your adventures with peace of mind.

If the Ride and the SuSi XPed had a child, it would be the Hike XPed the ideal two-seater for sharing the thrills you get from a SuSi XPed. Shared fun is twice the fun.

The main concepts behind the Hike XPed

4-liner Concept

Enables more efficient acceleration, improved handling and reduced strain on the controls.

Lightness

Weighing 4.35 kg, thanks in particular to an innovative 23 g/m² fabric on the underside.

Durability

New nose guard patches to protect the leading edge.Nitinol struts: unbreakable, non-deformable, maintain the wing’s shapeOptimised internal structure for weight reduction, resistance to deformation and guaranteed long-term performance

Compactness

We deliberately reduced the number of compartments to minimise bulk and the amount of folding required.The aim was clear: to ensure that all the gear could fit into a bag of around 35 litres, including the wing, harnesses and other equipment.

High-performance

Significant increase in speed of +8 to +10 km/h with trims open.

Accessibility

EN-B certified. The glider maintains good speed across a wide range of take-off weights, including when carrying light passengers. It handles well on landing, with an effective flare even when fully loaded.

Designer's notes

The aim was to create a truly versatile mountain tandem wing, in the spirit of the SuSi XPed, whilst benefiting from the latest technical advances gained from the design of the Ride.
Initially, we tested a 3-line concept, but the trials were not very convincing, mainly due to excessive control pressure. We therefore reverted to a 4-line design, which ultimately offered a better balance between performance, manoeuvrability and flying comfort.
In a nutshell: this wing is a real Swiss Army knife and sits between the Ronin Bi and the Ride.

Did you know?

• The trim adjustment means the whole family can fly: the children, mum, and even the in-law.
• Even when lightly loaded, the wing maintains good speed, and even when fully loaded, the landing remains smooth thanks to its excellent dynamics.
