RONIN Bi - #twosoulsnorules

Directly inspired from the RONIN, the RONIN-Bi is the new single-skin tandem that plays by no rules.
Its only goal? To run, to fly, together.

Once upon a time, on the summit of a mountain, two samurai were standing guard on their lord’s orders. Remaining motionless for hours, watching for the slightest threat in the valley below, was unbearably dull — but they knew the rules and could not abandon their post.

Down below, two silhouettes appeared. Instinctively, the samurai rested their hands on the hilts of their katanas, but they quickly noticed that these men wore no armor, bore no banner, and carried no weapons. They walked calmly, carrying nothing but a simple pack. “

They might be traveling merchants?”
“No, they’re far too lightly equipped for that. And what would they be doing on the summit of such a wild mountain?”

Upon reaching the top, the strangers unfurled a large, colorful canopy and attached themselves to it. Suddenly, without receiving any command, they launched themselves down the slope. A few steps… and then nothing beneath their feet.

“They’re falling!” exclaimed the first samurai. “No…” corrected the other, “They’re flying.” The wing glided silently toward the valley.

The samurai stood motionless, in awe. They had obeyed no master and seemed free to carve their own path, beyond all rules.

“Who were they?”
“No clan, no rules, no master… I believe they were RONIN.”

Designer's notes

The RONIN-Bi is a true design challenge, because a 2.6 kg tandem wing doesn’t happen by chance.

The first challenge lies in the structure. The wing must be able to withstand 1,500 kg of load for more than 3 seconds without flinching. To achieve such a featherweight despite these constraints, every seam, every cell is crafted with the utmost care.

 The second challenge was behavior. Drawing on the experience gained with the UFO Bi, we knew exactly which improvements to aim for: extreme compactness, a more generous flare and a more agile, lighter turn.

If you love the RONIN, you will immediately feel at home under this single-surface tandem that carries that very special DNA.

Construction & features

• The RONIN-Bi is a single-skin tandem paraglider directly inspired by the RONIN spirit: compact, lightweight and agile. Weighing just 2.6 kg, it positions itself as the lightest tandem on the market and opens up new perspectives for flying together.
• Its reduced line layout contributes to the overall light weight of the wing and makes line checks during pre-flight easier, even on technical or steep terrain, where simplicity truly makes the difference.
• The more tensioned profile improves energy retention, delivering tangible benefits throughout every phase of flight. At takeoff, inflation is fast and efficient: the RONIN-Bi rises smoothly overhead and lifts off quickly, opening the door to even more possibilities. On landing, the flare is more progressive, providing a comfortable touchdown for both pilot and passenger.
• Lightness does not mean fragility! We deliberately accepted a few extra grams in order to integrate larger reinforcements, ensuring long-term durability and structural strength. The RONIN-Bi is built to last, whatever adventures lie ahead.
• The AirDesign R&D team’s experience in developing single-skin wings made it possible to create an ultra-light tandem that sacrifices nothing in terms of flying pleasure. Even with this extreme single-skin tandem design, the enjoyment in flight remains fully intact. Handling is smooth, turns are precise, and the overall behavior inspires confidence, even in demanding conditions.
• Designed to adapt to all kinds of adventures and expand the range of possible playgrounds, the RONIN-Bi is aimed at those who prefer to explore their own paths rather than follow those already laid out.

Did you know?

• The RONIN-Bi is built for the most extreme adventures: high-altitude mountaineering, climbing, alpinism… Nothing can stop it!
• The RONIN-Bi fits in a trail running pack, and it’s even lighter than 2 water bottles.
• When developing a tandem wing, they must find the best compromise to adapt to a wide variety of spreader bars (soft or rigid). Here are some tips to connect your RONIN-Bi and maximize in-flight comfort:
  – If you use the Air Design soft spreader bars with the RONIN-Bi, these must be connected with a lark’s head knot on the RONIN-Bi risers. 
  – If the passenger weighs the same as the pilot or is lighter, the passenger harness must be clipped to the lowest attachment point. 
  – If you feel too low relative to the controls with your string harness, two adjustments are possible:
  – Tighten the lumbar adjustment of the string harness.
  – Make a lark’s head knot at the strap level of the string harness attachment points.
