Rocket P: Ultralight Competition Harness for Hike & Fly and Long-Distance Flying
The Rocket P is Niviuk's ultralight competition harness, developed for elite pilots and the demanding requirements of Hike & Fly and long-distance mountain competition.
Designed around the principles of low weight, aerodynamic efficiency, stability and long-flight comfort, the Rocket P has been developed and tested in some of the most demanding mountain flying environments, including the X-Alps 2025 and X-Pyr 2026.
Aerodynamic Performance
The Rocket P features an aerodynamic design developed to reduce drag during long transitions. Its streamlined construction is complemented by an inflatable aerodynamic tail/fairing, which helps maintain a clean profile throughout flight.
The harness is designed to deliver consistent efficiency during long-distance transitions, where aerodynamic performance can play an important role in overall flight efficiency.
Stability at Speed
A double-keel configuration contributes to yaw stability and provides greater precision when flying at higher speeds.
This design philosophy is particularly relevant to competition flying, where pilots frequently spend extended periods on speed bar and need a predictable, stable platform for demanding transitions.
Comfort for Long Flights
The Rocket P incorporates an ergonomic structure designed for comfort during prolonged flights, including demanding flights in high-mountain environments.
During the X-Pyr, pilots highlighted the comfortable flying position and the ability to remain in the harness for many hours. The feedback also emphasised its stable and natural behaviour in both normal flight and accelerated flight.
Lightweight Protection
The harness incorporates Niviuk's Apair inflatable protection, with weight of 240 g. It is designed to combine low weight with impact-absorption performance, supporting the overall ultralight philosophy of the harness.
Practical for Competition
Performance is only one part of a successful Hike & Fly setup. The Rocket P also provides practical storage solutions, with cockpit storage and additional compartments that pilots used to organise and access essential equipment during the X-Pyr.
Pilot feedback from the race highlighted the harness's storage capacity and practical cockpit as important advantages during long competition days.
Tested in the X-Pyr
The Rocket P was used during the 2026 X-Pyr by Pierre Remy, Justin Puthod, Jean de Biolley, Noé Court, Guillem Monroset, Antoine Franc and Baris Çelik.
After hundreds of kilometres and many hours in the air, their feedback highlighted several key characteristics: quick adaptation, long-flight comfort, stability, efficient speed-bar performance, an effective inflatable aerodynamic tail, generous storage and a practical cockpit.
Built for the Demands of Hike & Fly
The Rocket P forms part of Niviuk's ultralight competition setup alongside the Klimber 3 P and Expe Race. The complete setup was developed with the demands of high-mountain competition in mind, where every gram, every transition and every decision matters.
