Flybubble Advanced Ground Handling Sessions

Our Advanced Ground Handling training days are a great opportunity for qualified paraglider pilots to learn new skills and refine their glider control with individual attention from the Flybubble team.

The day starts with a review of pilot experience, skills and goals, and intro theory session. Then we head to the hill for the all-important practical side! Skills learnt and practiced will include managing your kit in the wind, various launch techniques, launching in strong winds, getting the wing down, avoiding getting dragged and the art of kiting. The day ends with a debrief, individual analysis, things to work on, and a short video session.

The planned programme for the day is as follows:

09h30: Meet at Flybubble HQ for an introductory theory session.

09h45: A review of pilot experience, skills and goals.

10h00: Theory: Airflow on launch sites, wind speed, airspeed, angle of attack, velocity, pendulum balance point, body position, line tension, riser skewing, timing.

11h00: Head to the hill.

11h30: Laying out in wind, holding the wing down, bunching up and carrying in the wind.

12h00: Pulling up: Standard cross-brake reverse launch, one handed, no handed, cobra, A/B launch, A/C launch, with big ears, from mushroom.

13h00: Launching: Avoiding getting plucked, perfecting the launch run.

13h30: Lunch break (on the hill, please bring your own sandwiches and water).

14h00: Getting the wing down: Wrap-stall, B/C/D stall, front collapse, one-A collapse, pivot technique, drag back technique.

15h00: Kiting: Crosswind, downwind, uphill, slalom (avoiding obstacles).
