Achieve Your BHPA Paragliding Club Pilot Rating

The BHPA Paragliding Club Pilot (CP) rating is what you need to be able to fly solo safely in the United Kingdom without instructor supervision. It is equivalent to FAI ParaPro Stage 3 which is internationally recognised in most countries around the world. There are two stages to complete successfully to acheive your CP rating:
Step 1) Attain Your BHPA Elementary Pilot (EP) Rating
First you will need to successfully attain the BHPA Paragliding Elementary Pilot (EP) rating, which takes on average 4-5 days of training. As well as all of the EP practical tasks you will need to complete succesfully, there is also some EP theory to learn and the EP Exam to pass. The EP practical tasks you will need to complete succesfully include things like ground training, ground handling, first hops, flight exercises, high flights and completing simple flight plans. The EP exam covers subjects such as meteorology, principles of flight, rules of the air and air law.
Once you have completed all of the EP tasks successfully, passed the EP Exam, and satisfied the BHPA Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) of the school that you have the correct 'Attitude and Airmanship' to continue paragliding safely, then the school's CFI will award you your BHPA Paragliding Elementary Pilot rating. You will then be ready to continue your training and work towards achieving your BHPA Paragliding Club Pilot rating.
Step 2) Attain Your BHPA Club Pilot (CP) Rating
As well as all of the CP practical tasks to complete successfully, to the standard required for Club Pilot, there is the next level of CP theory to learn and the CP Exam to pass. The practical CP tasks you will need to complete succesfully include things like soaring flights, top landings, flying with others, improving skills, accelerator systems, forward and reverse launching, active flying and rapid descent techniques. The CP exam covers subjects such as meteorology, principles of flight, rules of the air and air law, and general airmanship knowledge to CP level.
Once you have completed all of the Club Pilot tasks successfully, passed the CP Exam and satisfied the Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) of the school that you have the correct 'Attitude and Airmanship' to fly solo safely, unsupervised and with others, then the school's CFI will award you your BHPA Paragliding Club Pilot rating.
With us, it takes on average 10 good training days for individuals to achieve their BHPA Paragliding CP Hill rating from the very beginning. This can of course vary considerably due to various factors outside of our control, such as the weather and individual progression.
