ZOOM XHB: High B redefined
Despite its performance, the XHB is exceptionally easy to launch and offers very direct, dynamic and efficient handling in thermals. Even in demanding flying conditions, the canopy remains remarkably stable, while its behaviour in extreme flight situations is balanced and easy to control.
SUITABILITY
PILOT PROFILE
With the XHB, ambitious XC pilots get a powerful yet well-manageable wing with agile handling that makes it possible to master long cross-country flights. The XHB is aimed at pilots who already have experience in cross-country flying and want to continue developing their skills.
In terms of performance, the XHB is clearly positioned at the very top end of the B class, while remaining predictable and manageable from a safety perspective at all times. This gives pilots plenty of freedom to focus on the tactical aspects of cross-country flying.
PERFORMANCE & SAFETY - ASPECTS
Flight characteristics
MANAGEABLE TOP PERFORMANCE
In terms of flight and handling characteristics, the XHB clearly takes its cue from the successful X2C sport-class wing. Despite its high aspect ratio, launch behavior has been made remarkably easy. Without any special layout technique and with minimal input from the pilot, the XHB rises evenly and continuously to the overhead position.
In thermals, the XHB reveals its unmatched strength. This agile wing bites eagerly into lift, provides the pilot with a great deal of feedback, and can be flown very efficiently thanks to its precisely controllable handling. Brake inputs are transmitted directly and accurately, with pleasantly low brake pressure in the working range that becomes clearly defined as control travel increases.
As soon as the XHB is accelerated, it quickly becomes clear that this wing redefines the upper limit of the B class. The sophisticated B-C control system is intuitive to use and allows for efficient accelerated flying, even in turbulent headwind sections, while maintaining a high level of safety.
Safety
INTUITIVE AND PREDICTABLE
During the development of the XHB, Alex Höllwarth invested a great deal of time and effort into optimizing the flight characteristics relevant to safety. To achieve this, the XHB was tested extensively over a long period and throughout countless test flights, sometimes in demanding conditions in the Tyrolean Alps.
As a result, despite its top-level performance, the XHB fits perfectly into the High-B segment from a safety perspective. As with all ZOOM models, the transition into slow flight and stall behavior is clearly indicated through brake pressure on the XHB as well.
Features
- Shark Nose - optimized airflow at the leading edge
- Rigidfoil - wrikle free wing at leading edge
- Triple 3D Shaping - Reduced ballooning and wrikle free wing at leading edge
- LE (Leading edge) Miniribs - made of internal stitch technique – enhances the wrinkle free finish of the leading edge. Results in top glide performance especially during accelerated flying.
- TE (Trailing edge) Miniribs - made of internal stitch technique – enhances static stability on the trailing edge of the wing.
- Dirthole
- BC- Control system allows pilots to control the angle of attack of through the speed range without deforming the airfoil's camber
