Soar 2 – #cloudhopper
She was waiting for him to top land next to her.
As soon as his foot had touched the ground, she could hear him burst out laughing.
– You’re lucky I top landed with you because I’m the one with the stove!
– You mean how lucky we are! ’cause I’m the one with the tent!
Their first vol-biv. With the Soar 2.
Soar 2 – Rising superlight
Pilot level guide chart
Designer's notes
The first Soar #cloudhopper has made so many pilots happy, its successor had big shoes to fill. By implementing new tricks (2.5 liner, new arch, two pairs of winglets…) while keeping its original DNA, we managed to create a glider that will fulfill the expectation of most pilots nowadays: rising superlight and landing with a huge smile.
- Stephan Stiegler, Designer, AirDesign
Did you know?
- Together with the Rise 5, the Soar 2 is AirDesign first glider presenting two pairs of winglets. The winglets on the wingtips help to reduce the drag while the winglets added on the top surface improve the roll control, especially in deep spiral.
- AirDesign are always looking for the best compromise between lightness and solidity. That’s why the Soar 2 has nose guard patches. Simple and easy, for a couple of tens of grams more only, the nose guard patches allow the use of a light fabric on the leading edge while making the latter more resistant than ever. In fact, the Dominico DOKDO-10DSF which offers excellent porosity over time is protected by a high abrasion resistant cloth along the leading edge rods. Quite clever, isn’t it?
Construction
- New nose guard patches on the leading edge: robustness is the key!
- Hybrid 2.5 liner construction: 3 lines in the center, 2 lines on the tips. This saves some lines and thus reduces the drag, which also contributes to significantly increase performance at high speed
- Double-coated Dominico DOKDO-10DSF for top and bottom surfaces: durable Superlight construction
- The use of Nitinol rods not only saves weight and increases robustness, it also allows a super compact folding
- The combination of winglets on the stabilos with winglets on the top surface offers the best performance/accessibility ratio
