ADAM 2: IN THE BEGINNING
- ALULA Simulation Software
- Ergonomic Risers
- Excellent Stall Behaviour
- Progressive Stability
- School Friendly Durability
Faced with a spaghetti mess of lines, working out what is what can be overwhelming at first. With the ADAM 2 BGD kept things simple and clear: 20mm risers are easy to manage, and they are coloured and labelled. The lines are all sheathed and coloured. Excellent launch behaviour makes ground-handling and getting airborne very easy, and excellent pitch, roll and yaw stability will make students feel at ease in their harness.
The ADAM 2 has long brake travel and the brake pressure ramps up to a clear stall point. Students will not accidentally stall this glider. BGD has thoroughly tested spiral behaviour and there is no tendency for it to lock in.
BGD love beautiful, colourful wing designs, and those bright colours are a safety plus, too, so you are easily seen by other pilots. The new coloured undersurface makes it easy for instructors to identify their students from below. Three colours, Amber, Quartz and Diamond are very visible, different to each other and distinctive from above and below.
Target
The ADAM 2 is BGD's safe and easy school wing. It is designed for fledgling pilots to take their first steps into the air and develop soaring and thermalling skills, without stress. It’s durable and hard-wearing to withstand hours of ground-handling practice and heavy use in schools. It will look after you as you discover your wings and take to the skies.
Designer's notes
The ADAM has always been and remains a popular glider all around the world. It has taken the R&D team a long time to update this classic, because any replacement had to be better than the original without losing that much-loved character. The ADAM 2 is a whole new design, and it is even safer and more comfortable to fly. It is easier to launch and has longer brake travel so it’s safer at slow speeds and easy to land. Bruce’s son Tyr learned to fly on the original ADAM, and our benchmark for safety is still: “safe enough for your child to learn on”.
The ADAM 2 has two more cells than the original, now 36. The aspect ratio is also a bit higher at 4.8 compared to the original’s 4.5. We decided to make it in five sizes, adding an XS to the range. We often get requests for smaller gliders for youngsters and lighter pilots, and the XS is certified from just 50kg all up.
The ADAM 2 incorporates several key technologies: Our trademark Progressive Stability means the centre is the most resistant to deforming and the tips the least so there will be no nasty surprises in turbulent air. Chord Cut Billow technology is there too, reducing ballooning and eliminating wrinkles from the sail. The elliptical cell openings on the ADAM 2 keeps the bottom surface well tensioned. This gives it good inflation characteristics, and easy reinflation after a collapse.
Durability is key for a school glider, so we’ve opted for high quality Dominico 30D, which proved itself on the original ADAM. Despite the materials being the same, new construction methods means it’s lighter than the original, at 4.1kg to 5.4kg across the range."

Features
Baby A-Riser
BGD has added a 'big ears' A riser which is also on a 1/2 ratio with the rest of the A-lines. This facilitates easy use of the big ears while helping speed and stability while on bar. The speed system is light and simple without reflex really helping glide at speed.
Snap locks
Snap Locks are lightweight, compact attachments that effortlessly connect the breaks to the risers. A small focused magnet inside the catch and an internal locking system hold the handle in place, releasing only if the handles are pulled down towards the pilot. This unique design feature means the handles don't fall off while kiting, packing or performing manoeuvres. The Snap Lock system solved many of the problems associated with press-studs and magnets.
Ergonomic risers
The risers were designed for ease of use. The 20mm webbing is easy to handle, and they are coloured and labelled: The As are red, and marked with an A for the main As, and an ear symbol on the outer A or big-ears riser. B risers are green and labelled B. Comfortable brake handles have snaplock connectors, and swivels stop the brake lines twisting up.
School friendly durability
Durability is key for a school glider, so BGD has opted for high quality Dominico 30D, which proved itself on the original ADAM. Despite the materials being the same, new construction methods means it’s lighter than the original, at 4.1kg to 5.4kg across the range.
ALULA Simulation Software
The future of glider design depends largely on simulations. Instead of designing and producing prototypes one by one, BGD unique in-house structural / aero simulation program, ALULA, enables BGD to accurately simulate hundreds of virtual prototypes. They test over 200 virtual prototypes for each paraglider, using 50 million iterations of the structural / aero calculations.
Excellent Stall Behaviour
The ADAM 2 has long brake travel and pressure that ramps up to a clear stall point. Students will not accidentally stall this glider.
Impeeccable spiral behaviour
The spiral behaviour is astounding- spiral stability can be a problem with low aspect-ratio beginner wings, but BDG has tested the paragliders extensively, with different inclinations and sink rates, and never ever has it stayed in a spiral, once! This is very unusual for a school glider and is a big safety bonus.
Integrated Line Layout
The line layout of BGD gliders is fully integrated into the wing design. Sail and lines are designed together, holistically. The cell widths and the internal straps that transfer the load though the sail are all designed according to the line layout. Even the panel shaping is matched with the line layout through detailed CAD simulation. The result is simple: fewer lines and stronger, faster, safer gliders.
Elliptical Cell Openings
BGD have found that elliptical cell openings give better lower surface tension making for smoother inflation, and re-inflation after collapses.
Chord cut billow (CCB)
Chord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of BGD paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge. They accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Without CCB, up to five centimeters of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel when it bends over a wing profile. This results in wrinkles. Chord Cut Billow technology removes this excess material and the 3D panel has fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.
BGD Feedback
Gliders that talk are safer. Safer gliders make pilots perform better. Better performing pilots fly further. Further flying pilots are happier pilots. BGD Feedback produces happier pilots!
Progressive stability
Using ALULA, BGD gliders are designed to have a stable and solid center with progressively softer tips. This teaches pilots to predict and avoid deflations and stay aware of the air.
