The Flytec Sonic is a mini "audio only" vario for mounting on your helmet (or harness etc), for pilots who want to enjoy freeflight with the minimum of technology. Ideal as a back-up instrument for XC and competition flying, it's also perfect for coastal soaring flights where altitude indication is of little importance. Popular with tandem and 'hike and fly' pilots too.

Flytec Sonic (PAST MODEL) Reviews

Flight Saver on 07/06/2010
  • Star Rating
A 'flight-saver' on a number of occasions already! I first bought a Flytec IQ-Sonic for myself just as a back-up, in case the batteries went flat on my main Alti-Vario-GPS. As a back-up the IQ-Sonic has proven to be invaluable already on several occasions; however in addition to this, I have also found it to be a brilliant bit of lightweight kit for those ridge-soaring days! I also often use it for tandem flying - no problems fixing it to anything (attached to the back of my helmet) and the passenger doesn't have an annoying beep-beep from a Vario strapped to the spreader bars right next to their ears, spoiling their enjoyment of the flight. Well worth the money!
