More about Ikuma
Designed to cover a broad range of pilot needs in a new category we have named Back Country, a definition explaining a new flying style rather than defining it by a certification code. The Ikuma meets the criteria demanded by all pilots with various expectations, offering them performance and safety in this new glider.
Tenacity and persistence to always skilfully reach for the next big achievement was the catalyst for Niviuk to design the Ikuma. As with the most precious diamonds found deep in the Earth's surface, our engineers, lead by Olivier Nef, brought the wing to life. Serene, precise and fun to fly, it is the perfect glider to those most passionate and ambitious pilots.
With a sporty character, the Ikuma was engineered to enjoy and maximize every flight, feeling natural instinctive states of mind with each new flown route. Stress free piloting becomes essential and will let you concentrate on the fun part of the flight only. Guide your wing without restraints to wherever your fancy leads you.
Allow yourself to discover new corners of the sky regardless of the chosen route, from the known territory to far away uncharted remote places. Experience true Back Country flying under this safe glider with awesome performance levels. Ikuma, designed without shortcuts.
Technology
SLE (Structured Leading Edge)
The SLE provides more rigidity and stability along the span of leading edge but also allows full flexibility along the both the vertical and horizontal axis of each open cell. It ensures ease of movement on the ground, easier launches and high security in the air during turbulence, and whilst flying at speed.
RAM (Ram Air Intake)
The RAM air intake allows an optimal position for the air intakes (below the leading edge of the glider aligned with the under surface) to gain turbulent air absorption in the leading edge, more consistency in variable speed and a better performance while assuring maximum security.
DRS (Drag Reduction Structure)
The trailing edge has been reinforced with small ribs that make this part flatter in order to spread the pressure out evenly. It means better air-flow and less drag on this important part of the glider. The addition of these ribs gives the glider exceptional handling (better and more efficient when turning) and more control and precision.

Niviuk Ikuma paraglider reviews
"I have been enjoying flying the Ikuma and found myself regularly out-climbing others on it, in all kinds of conditions. It climbs really well. It's also very well behaved in turbulent conditions, with lower pilot demands than other current high B wings."
- Nancy Elliott, Flybubble
"Its handling, playful side and good balance in turbulence let you easily make the most of the performance of this EN B+ wing. The promises in the specifications have definitely been realised, and in a fairly astonishing way" "It has to be said that the ‘fun’ part of the specification is, without a doubt, perfectly achieved: its precise controls and reactivity are a real success (...) The wing glides very well: it’s surprising how compact and balanced it is. The Ikuma calmly crosses turbulence and transforms the movements in a positive way." The review also included the opinion of two young pilots flying the Ikuma, Valentin Gilet and Alix Boudon. Alix explained that "compared to the other EN B+ wings, [the Ikuma] offers more feedback and it marks little bubbles of air better", an opinion shared by Valentin, who added: "the Ikuma is lively and nice to fly and it turns efficiently. It responds well to the outer brake. It ‘talks a lot’ and it enters a spiral strongly"

"After flying the wing for over ten hours in the thermals of the south of France I found it a delight." "Flying the wing smack bang in the middle of the weight range I had no problem keeping up with the mixture of wings around me: high-end Bs like the Mentor 4, Cs such as Delta 2s and Sigma 9s and a few prototypes."
- Marcus King, Cross Country magazine (full review Cross Country 169.)
"The Ikuma easily climbs overhead as a true B glider would, hence making it easy to handle. Once airborne, it glides effectively and positively surprises. The turn is similar to all the Niviuk wings: easy, pleasant and intuitive. Where the Ikuma reveals its potential and creates a real surprise is in thermals and where everyone agrees... I could fly in the company of many other wings from B to D during my test flights... Let the wing locate a thermal, initiate a turn and up it goes by itself, it is magic." "The Ikuma is a sport level B wing whose primary function is to make you fly faster in thermals, to take you efficiently to the remote areas of the day. With a playful character also well suited for soaring fun, its aspect ratio brings a well-defined passive safety level. Unquestionably one of the best B sport glider in the category."
