Ears “Ear lock system”
The Ear Lock System Lock Unlock
“Ears” provide a way of descending moderately at -3 to -4 m/s by increasing the angle of attack and the wing load of the surface that is left open. The drawback is that the ground speed drops by 3 to 5 km/h, and piloting is limited since the pilot has to hold on to the ear lines manually. To regain horizontal speed and angle of attack, the pilot can accelerate while the ears are folded. In a single-seater paraglider, once the pilot has folded over the ears, he can only pilot his paraglider by using weight shift. In a two-seater, even if it’s possible to achieve minimum control with the help of the passenger, in most cases it proves insufficient when needed. NIVIUK Gliders have developed the EAR LOCK SYSTEM.
The Ear Lock System (ELS) is a standard equipment on the TAKOO. This brand-new ear control system provides a simple and effective solution for meeting the needs of two-seater pilots when performing quick-descents. ELS enables the pilot to lock and unlock the ears as desired. ELS gives full control to the pilot with the ears folded. ELS lets the pilot use the ears as long as necessary with no physical effort at all. ELS makes it conveniently for the pilot to use the trims. ELS allows different settings (big ears, small ears) ELS prevents the ears opening accidentally. ELS does NOT prevent to do the manoeuvre in the classic way. ELS can be uninstalled without affecting the rest of the equipment.
To use the Ear Lock System, take the ear line and pull it downward until the knot passes through the ELS (lock system); then move it a little bit horizontally forward so that the knot locks. To unlock it, pull the knot downward to free it, and accompany the ear line vertically as it goes upward. It is better to release the two ears separately.
