PENTAGON Light: Five-sided ultralight parachute
Stability thanks to pentagonal design
The shape of the PENTAGON Light is self-stabilising: if the parachute experiences a pendular impulse towards a corner, then the restoring force will automatically act in the opposite direction. Opposite a corner is an edge, where the airflow is significantly different. This counteracts the dreaded oscillating effect. The resulting pendular stability is excellent.
Fast and reliable
Five corner vents assist fast inflation in the opening phase. Opening is faster and more reliable than with conventional parachutes. Inspired by round canopy parachutes, the design of the PENTAGON Light utilises an adapted reefing system. This slows a parachute from opening too rapidly. The very low sink rate is 5.2 m/s for size 85.
Weight-optimised light version
The PENTAGON Light weighs on average approximately 300 grams less than the PENTAGON and therefore represents its significantly lighter version. Thanks to its low weight and small packing volume, the PENTAGON Light is perfect for hike & fly (competitions).
Please note: due to its extremely lightweight construction, the PENTAGON Light is not suitable for repeated deployments with water landings during SIV/pilotage courses. The PENTAGON Light must be checked by an authorised workshop after each use.
Uncomplicated packing
A prerequisite for quick opening is that the parachute is packed regularly. The PENTAGON Light is quick and easy to pack. The base and centre lines are all the same length and equal distance from each other. They are also colour-coded. This means that the risk of errors during packing have nearly been eliminated.
The ultimate in lightness
Designed for hike & fly, climb & fly and vol biv, ultra-lightweight products are built to be as light and compact as possible. To achieve this, Nova use the lightest materials and technologies available - but never at the expense of safety! For the longest possible enjoyment of the product, they recommend particularly careful handling of the equipment.
The canopy of the PENTAGON Light is made from Dominico 10D parachute fabric, the lines are Edelrid Restrix and Liros DC 120 and the risers are made from Liros D-Pro.
Technology
Pendular dampening
High pendular damping. Unlike a circle or a square, a five-sided object lacks point symmetry. In other words, in a pentagon, on the opposite side of a corner is an edge and opposite every edge is a corner. Regardless if the initial pendular impulse is towards a corner or an edge, the restoring force in a pentagon is clearly different. The pendular movement is disrupted and this dampens unwelcome oscillations, which in turn greatly reduces the risk of a hard impact.
Quick Opening
Due to the short lines, the time between deployment and the lines being taut is very quick. The five corner vents assist a fast inflation and the low overall canopy height of the PENTAGON and PENTAGON Light reduces the volume to be filled. Altogether this means that the PENTAGON and PENTAGON Light are fully open very quickly after only loosing a little height. This is not only critical when close to the ground, but it also reduces the risk of the PENTAGON and PENTAGON Light getting tangled in the paraglider's lines before opening.
Easy Repacking
All base lines of the PENTAGON and PENTAGON Light are all the same length and colour-coded. Also all lines are equal distance from each other. Using the packing loops, the PENTAGON and PENTAGON Light are very easy to pack and the risk of mistakes is minimal.
Adapted reefing system
To dampen the opening force, the design of the PENTAGON Light has been adapted, inspired by the reefing system of round canopy parachutes. To ensure the opening force is applied more evenly to the canopy, the PENTAGON Light features spliced suspension lines. This design change results in a more damped opening of the rescue.
