Description

The Lightest and Most Comfortable Geo, Ever! The original Geo redefined its class of lightweight wings. Pilots who want a lightweight wing that fits into the middle of the EN B Category yet still has an acceptable amount of performance and durability for everyday flying have found a friend in the Geo and Geo II. The new Geo III is now an evolution of its predecessors, but with even greater comfort and ease of use. This is the most comfortable and easy to use all-around light wing that we have ever flown. The Geo III is also the lightest Geo we have ever built, at 4.1kg for the ML size.

Geo III - The Lightest and Most Comfortable Geo, Ever!

The Geo III is a wing for pilots wanting a light wing, but with no compromise in comfort, accessibility, durability, and versatility.

Key Points

  • Developed from the highly successful Buzz Z3
  • Key words for the Geo III are accessibility, comfort, safety, and precision, with good performance in the EN B category.
  • Porcher 36gm cloth has proven to be the ideal top surface material after 6 years of use in the Ozone range. This cloth provides the perfect balance between weight and durability.
  • Porcher 27gm bottom surface, proven ideal after years of use in the Ultralite range.
  • Internal ribs and structure: 40gm hard finish, for maximum durability and long lasting performance.
  • Nylon rods for leading edge reinforcement.
  • Your choice of lightweight Dyneema risers (250gm lighter), or standard 12mm nylon risers.
  • 900g lighter than the Geo II, with no sacrifice in durability.

Ozone’s research into light wing construction began in 2001 with the introduction of the Peak, continued during the first ever X-Alps race in 2003, the Geo in 2005, and more recently the Ultralite, Geo II, and Swift. The Geo III is now the latest evolution in the Geo legacy.

The Geo III appeals to a wide range of pilots who are considering a light wing for travel and adventure flying. Although it features a high level of passive safety and comfort for the EN B class, the Geo III is also a solid XC wing with glide performance that will appeal to talented beginners and experienced pilots alike.

The Concept

The Geo III has been developed from the Buzz Z3, which was the ideal foundation from which to build a highly comfortable EN B lightweight wing. A high level of comfort, safety, accessibility, precision and performance in the EN B class were the mission requirements for the Geo3.

New Features

The bottom surface of the Geo III is now 27g Porcher cloth, which has provided a significant decrease in overall weight and pack volume. The durability of the 27g for the bottom surface is very good as has been proven by the Swift and other models.

For the top surface, Porcher 36g remains the ideal choice, as has been used for six years on our light wings. This cloth is used for the entire top surface for an ideal balance of weight and durability.

The internal structure remains Porcher 40g hard finish, like the Z3, for obvious reasons. Only the unsupported ribs, which experience very little loading, have been changed to 27g hard finish.

New nylon rods have now replaced the Dacron reinforcement in the LE. In the style of the Delta and other performance wings, this leading edge reinforcement is light and durable.

The lightweight riser option is made from 10mm Dyneema webbing, mounted with LinkLite connectors to the lines (The same as the Swift lightweight option). Light riser option saves 250 grams total weight over the standard riser option.

In total the Geo III weight has been reduced by 900 grams (for the ML size) from the Geo II, without any sacrifice in durability or safety.

Feeling, Handling & Safety

The Geo III has a highly compact and coordinated feel, making it a playful and agile wing without being too dynamic. Feedback to the pilot is moderated through progressive brake pressure, and feedback from the pilot via his/her harness can be used to climb easily in thermals. The pitch stability of its new profile means that the Geo III enters the thermal core without falling back, and the handling allows you to place the wing exactly where you want within the thermal without sliding or straightening out of the turn.

A carefully refined profile and perfectly balanced sail tension are the key ingredients for performance in active air. The Geo III is extremely solid with excellent stability in turbulence and accelerated flight. The new line plan has reduced the overall line drag by 12% from the Geo II, and our continuing research in lightweight wing technology has helped us to reduce the weight even further. The Geo III is almost 1kg lighter than the Geo II, and this reduction in weight has many benefits including better inflation characteristics and an easier launch, calmer in-flight behaviour, and improved handling and safety. It is also, of course, lighter to carry. In every category of wing performance, lighter is better.

Ozone Geo III or Ozone Swift?

If you are considering a light wing and are deciding between the Swift and Geo III, our best advice is to try them both. The Geo III is a more comfortable wing, and the Swift is a more agile wing. The glide performance of the Swift is slightly higher and the Swift will appeal to pilots who value precise handling and glide performance over comfort and ease of use. The Geo III was designed for pilots who want an ultra-comfortable, worry-free, light wing.

In the Geo III, talented beginners will find a wing with which they can progress for several years, and higher airtime pilots will enjoy its ease of use in turbulent, thermic air during long ascents and epic XC flights.

The Geo 3 is an ideal choice for pilots who require a lightweight wing and fly approximately 30-50 hours per year, and for more experienced pilots who want a wing with passive safety, comfort, and fun handling in the EN A/B class.

Standard or Light Risers

The Geo III is sold with the option of standard or light risers. The standard risers are black nylon 12mm webbing. The light risers are thin Dyneema risers, giving a 250 gram weight saving. Most pilots choose the standard risers for their handling comfort and ease of use.
