The SCALA 2 is the more heavy and robust version of the SCALA 2 light, which has been developed for hike and fly races like the Redbull X-alps. These are super long distance endurance competitions. The athletes need a wing that is not only superbly performing, but also is very easy in every matter. They need to trust the wing’s stability and safety when they are tired and not that concentrated.
The SCALA 2 is the evolution of the first version of the SCALA. PHI tuned on many screws to make it even better in performance, easyness and simplicity. The SCALA 2 is a high level EN C class wing! With it’s high aspect ratio and performance the SCALA 2 stands out of the C class. It is a kind of game changer.

Scala 2: The Racer
Having that very elegant high aspect ratio, this wing is really easy in every matter! The outstanding feature is the extreme stable airfoil. As more turbulent it gets as more advantage you have with the SCALA 2!
As the “heavy version” of the SCALA 2 light, the SCALA 2 did not have min weight as a main priority, so it has heavier material and and more and longer rods all over the topsail.
Designer's notes
"We were very pleased with the high safety level of the SCALA 2 light. But we were even more pleased, that the “heavy version” of it: the SCALA 2 is still that safe and easy in extreme flying manoeuvres!
The new MJ 32 cloth is smooth, providing a really clean surface."— Hannes Papesh, Phi Designer
Features
The SCALA 2 is an evolution of the SCALA.
PHI improved the rigging system, allowing bigears, a higher load for bigger sizes and a better form stability. The balooning has been optimized further on, as well we spend a lot of work in optimization of rod length, shape and number. The SCALA 2 uses the superlight D10 cloth in bottomsail: so they gained a little weight reserve for more rods in topsail.
The airfoil and intakes have been slightly adapted to improve performance and handling. -as well as the new riser and line attachments system is offering more control at max speed.
The SCALA 2 is made “on top” of the SCALA 2 light: more heavy and rigid cloth, longer and more rods: for even more performance.
Flybubble review
"We're diving into the world of the PHI SCALA 2, a glider that's been creating quite a buzz in the paragliding community. Let's take a closer look at its features, performance, and how it stacks up against its predecessors and competitors.
First off, it's essential to note that the PHI SCALA 2 shares many similarities with its lighter counterpart, the SCALA 2 Light. According to Hannes,, the designer and owner of PHI, they're essentially the same glider, differing primarily in materials and construction. However, the SCALA 2 feels noticeably more robust, thanks to additional reinforcement and longer rods, reflecting a trend towards enhanced solidity and collapse resistance in modern gliders.
Despite its higher aspect ratio compared to some other EN C 2 liners, pilot demands remain surprisingly similar. This aspect was particularly intriguing during testing, as one might expect more significant differences due to the increased aspect ratio. However, the SCALA 2 handles adeptly across various conditions, whether light or strong winds, showcasing its versatility.
One notable aspect of the SCALA 2 is its balanced performance. It's neither overly demanding nor excessively forgiving, striking a sweet spot that appeals to pilots seeking a reliable, all-around glider. Whether launching in light winds or battling gusts, the SCALA 2 inspires confidence with its stable inflation and solid performance overhead.
In terms of thermaling and climb rate, the SCALA 2 shines brightly. Its ability to sniff out lift and efficiently climb, even in weak, scratchy conditions, sets it apart. Pilots reported feeling well-equipped to exploit thermals effectively, thanks to the glider's responsive handling and keen feedback.
When it comes to glide performance, the SCALA 2 doesn't disappoint. It boasts an impressive reach, allowing pilots to explore farther and make the most of any lift encountered. Its efficient trim speed and solid glide performance ensure a satisfying experience whether ridge soaring or navigating across varying terrain.
Engaging the speed bar reveals another dimension of the SCALA 2's capabilities. With a significant increase in speed over trim, pilots can confidently push the glider to higher velocities without sacrificing stability. The glider remains solid and responsive throughout the speed range, providing a thrilling experience for those inclined to chase faster flights.
Handling the SCALA 2 on rear risers is a breeze, with moderate pressure and excellent communication. Whether executing spiral dives or wingovers, pilots appreciate the glider's agility and predictability, making it a joy to fly in dynamic conditions.
Descending techniques, including spiral dives and big ears, are executed with precision, further showcasing the SCALA 2's versatility and reliability. Despite its agility and responsiveness, the glider maintains stability and control, instilling confidence in pilots during all phases of flight.
In conclusion, the PHI SCALA 2 emerges as a top contender in the EN C 2 category, offering a balanced blend of performance, agility, and safety. While it represents a significant step up from high B wings, it remains accessible to pilots looking to advance their skills without compromising on stability or comfort. Whether you're exploring thermals, pushing the limits on speed bar, or honing your descent techniques, the SCALA 2 delivers a rewarding flying experience that's sure to leave a lasting impression.
For pilots considering an upgrade, particularly from high B wings, the SCALA 2 presents a compelling option worth serious consideration. Its solid performance across various conditions and precise handling make it a worthy investment for those seeking to elevate their flying adventures."

Other reviews
“Launching the Scala 2 with my x-rated 6 harness at 93 all up needs a steady pull, as the glider feels a bit heavy on pull. But still inflates evenly and I didn’t notice a surge, just a bit slow to rise. In the air, the brake travel is short with moderate to hard pressure after 15 cm of travel. After flying nearly all the latest 2 liners, I felt that the Scala 2 felt a bit heavier to steer in the air at 93 all up. The Scala 2 as an EN-C glider, has to moderate and acceptable agility, and is easy to induce a turn in moderate conditions. The Scala 2 feels very compact and in turbulence, it doesn’t require a lot of pilot control, like the Photon.
Conclusion: The 2-liner C category, holds now many new releases, and the Scala 2 adds to the category the flavor of flying a high aspect ratio glider but with a comfortable package. I missed that exceptional nimble feel of the beautiful Maestro 2 and the pleasurable handling of the sweet Allegro! With Its 6.77 aspect ratio, the Scala 2 is created to glide, and the promise is reel."

Risers
Standard: 'Comfort 2-liner' R12
Optional: 'Light Performance 2' R11
You are free to customize and choose another riser free of charge but this will delay your order by 3-7 days. If saving every gram is your top priority, you may choose a lighter riser. This reduces the weight on the tech data list but compromises usability and increases speed system pressure.

How should the SCALA 2 be packed?
The rods of the SCALA 2 l are not sensitive against bending, but they are longer that those of the SCALA 2 light. Please pack the wing with more care.
What is the service interval of the SCALA 2? Is a trim tuning needed?
The service interval is as usual 2 years from the first flight. Please fill in your first flight in the type table. On the base of our experience with the lines material mix, there is no trim tuning necessary: the trim does normally not change significantly.
What is the extended weight range?
As the SCALA 2 has a very wide safety margin, we decided to offer an extended weight range. This is offering the possibility to fly the SCALA 2 with more wing loading, still being in the certification range. A pilot may use this option on days with strong thermals with extra ballast, for strong wind soaring or when he generally loves to fly a high loaded wing for more speed, more dynamic energy and more fun.
For normal thermal flying it is recommended to stay inside the standard weight range.
