The light version of the BEAT, fitting between TENOR light and MAESTRO X-alps in Phi's range. Synthesising concepts, BEAT light combines strengths from MAESTRO X-alps, ALLEGRO X-alps and SYMPHONIA. An exceptionally clean finish and high level of form stability give high precision and excellent feedback! The handling is perfectly balanced, the performance convincing, and the behaviour in manoeuvres exemplary.

BEAT light: the superlight heartbeat!
It's performant, it's precise, it's extremely reliable and super-light!
The BEAT light is the perfect wing for a very wide range of paraglider pilots.
Designer's note
The BEAT light was originally not planned. But from the moment, we presented the BEAT, people were asking for the light version. As we see our main goal and motivation to offer the pilots out there the wings they want, we started to develop the light version of the BEAT. So here it is: the BEAT light: enjoy!

Technical features
The BEAT light is based on the BEAT: so 56 cells and a flat aspect ratio of 5.3. The BEAT light lines up between TENOR light and MAESTRO X-alps.
Technically it is a somewhat slimmed down MAESTRO X-alps with a few pinches of ALLEGRO (three main lines), a little FANTASIA (intake) and of course SYMPHONIA (being extremely well-balanced).
Even using light cloth, the BEAT light is very form stable and precise.
"Carving the sky", one pilot commented.
Above all, this wing seems to benefit from its exceptionally clean finish. The BEAT light has a very high level of form stability due to its complex structure. This makes it extremely precise to fly, and give excellent feedback!
Like the BEAT, the BEAT light is mainly using sheathed lines. This follows the request of pilots who wanted more robust sheathed TECHNORA on the brake and stabilo lines.
The BEAT light is PHI's lightweight version of the BEAT.
Our review of the Phi BEAT and BEAT light:
“We've done a full SIV acro course on both the Beat and Beat light, and we've flown them on the local South Downs. So we've actually had quite extensive flying on the BEATs.At Siv Acro I ended up on the BEAT light - the size 22.
The BEAT comes up, inflates nicely. It doesn't drag on the ground, comes up, and then carries on inflating progressively all the way up. Obviously it's down to the input from the pilot. At the top you do need to catch it a little bit when the wind is stronger. The launch with the Beat light, it feels lighter when you're launching it. I'd say the Beat light's got moderate length on the brakes. So, building the wall is easy and she wants to fly. So she comes up nicely, but it doesn't tend to overshoot. The wing is lighter than the standard weight and it just floats up nicely, and then... but it stops it doesn't sort of overfly. The brake travel is sort of, it's not light, it's not heavy, so it's a sort of moderate pressure. Possibly with the light version that maybe it is a little bit lighter than the standard BEAT.
I'd say the speed system is quite light, but also feels very efficient. It gives you what you want when you need it. And it's progressive but it's light to put on. Certainly not a lot of strain. I've flown it with the LIGHTNESS 3.With big ears, they come in nicely. They actually will stay in, and just a little pump to release and off they go. So, just need a little encouragement and they pop out. We were incredibly impressed by how well behaved the BEAT and BEAT light were.”

“On the launch, I think the BEAT is very, very sorted. What I mean by that is in all wind conditions. Even from a very light to nil wind, the glider inflates really easily, and comes up very nicely. The BEAT inflates right across the sail and comes up. Really, the whole sail comes up together in one thing, which is what you really want.
So, the brake travel, I'd say is slightly on the longer side. If you just fly in "Tourist" position (With your hand at the bottom of the triangles), then you'll find the brakes seem like they're quite long. Which I think that's the case for quite a lot of gliders.
The BEAT I feel has got a more calm nature to it and it turns more flatly. Still got a very nice turn. I can feel like I can really turn it nicely in thermals, it's a fair bit more calm than say the MAESTRO, which is quite sporty. The turn's really efficient. When you're soaring and thermalling, you can tell you're doing really well on the BEAT. It's sink rate is very impressive. It does turn very progressively, in a nice way.
Some gliders really resist pulling in big ears and it's kind of, like they keep flapping and want to reinflate. The BEAT comes in nice and easy. And then they sit nice and stable. And then when you release the big ears, if you let them they will slowly reinflate, but they're quite slow.
Pilots who are stepping up from an A glider, or may have been flying a low B, are gonna find this a nice progression, but not find the struggle. It doesn't need that huge amount of pilot input. The performance is there, it's definitely a mid B. You feel like, "Yeah, great. I've progressed on from my high A, low B." And you're moving up.
The pilot demands feel more like a low B. It feels like an ambitious beginner could fly the BEAT if they had good kiting skills, and good wing control skills. The performance is really excellent. The performance is very close to the high Bs, particularly in terms of its climb rate, its sink rate. And it has a really good glide. Soaring and thermalling, stuff like that, the BEAT is fantastic. So this is the mid B, but it's so easy to launch and fly, and it's so comfortable to fly. And I had some of my best ever flights in this area on the BEAT and the BEAT light.
I was able to climb out and get up, where lots of pilots didn't get up. Push, punch into wind, into a reasonable headwindand glide right up windand do a nice kind of triangle in that. I enjoyed flying the glider so much. You feel like the glider, it's got that precision to get through the air.
We did a little bit of Acro too. And the reason we chose to take the BEAT and BEAT light is, one, as we've been explaining, they're just such comfortable, friendly gliders. I was flying the BEAT, size 23. Soon got to find out that the BEAT and the BEAT light are brilliant for getting into Acro. Tail slides, they were fantastic. I managed to progress and even doing my first Helicopters.“
