It was a tricky call as to whether one should go to the Devil's Dyke, hoping for a lucky climb out before the wind backed to the south west as it was forecast to do, or go straight to Mount Caburn and face the 500ft walk-up...
Cross Country Paragliding Flight from Mount Caburn (near Lewes) to Hawkhurst
The weather forecasts for Friday 25 August showed strong thermic conditions; too turbulent for students and low-airtime pilots to fly safely; good for experienced paraglider pilots to go cross country flying. And so we did! :-)
It was a tricky call as to whether one should go to the Devil's Dyke, hoping for a lucky climb out before the wind backed to the south west as it was forecast to do, or go straight to Mount Caburn and face the 500ft walk-up...
It turned out that heading straight to Mount Caburn was the right thing to do, and a few lucky experienced paraglider pilots enjoyed some fantastic cross country flights from this superb site!
As an added bonus, Carlo had a flying companion almost the whole way through his cross country paragliding flight - his good friend Paul 'Tefal' Andon (see photo above) who made the wise decision of not drinking the night before, even though it was his Birthday.
Happy Birthday, Tefal - very nice flying with you!
Thanks also to Tefal for doing at least his fair of the hard work, finding thermals, pushing on, searching for the best lift etc. Very good flying indeed, Sir! :-)))
